After graduation moved to Slough and taught English at Baylis Court Secondary School for two years before moving to Northamptonshire where she again taught English until 1978 when the family moved to Aberdeenshire. Having now put her teaching career behind her Sue immersed herself in voluntary work in the community wherever there was a need. She has been heavily involved in voluntary work since first rattling a tin on behalf of NSPCC at the tender age of 16.

In 1998 she was appointed to Grampian Local Health Council where she first got involved with issues relating to Coronary Heart Disease and eventually with GCRA Ltd.
With the Local Health Councils being abolished in March 2005 and replaced with a single Scottish Health Council she has been appointed to serve on this new council.

Qualifications include:

B.A. degree
Post Graduate Diploma in Education

Other interests include:

Chairman of Gordon Rural Action Group. Chairman of Voluntary Services in Central Aberdeenshire and founder member of Garioch Charities Shop in Inverurie.

When not working tirelessly on behalf of others Sue relaxes to music, mainly choral, reading political and historical biographies and almost, repeat, almost completing The Telegraph crossword.
Questioned on the idea of retirement she replied, ‘What’s that ? ‘
