WELL DONE BERT!
A fabulous £2,050 raised
at The Garioch 10km Run
Sunday 1st April
Little over a year ago Inverurie member Bert Lyon had a heart attack.
After attending the NHS Phase III programme he joined the GCRA Wednesday
evening class at The Garioch Sports Centre. Bert now well recovered and
an enthusiastic member of the Garioch class, decided to have a crack at
completing the Garioch 10km Run to raise funds for the benefit of GCRA.
With encouragement and guidance from the class instructor, Jane Eaton, he
trained regularly to build stamina to ensure he could complete the 10km
Run. Jane herself is a well-known runner, having already run a number of
full marathons, including the London Marathon, which she ran for the
Garioch Renal Dialysis Group.
On a fine sunny day, Jane and Bert, wearing sponsored T-shirts with the
GCRA logo on them completed the run in the fabulous time of 80 minutes.
Jane's presence in the race with Bert was to chaperone him and ensure that
didn't go 'flat out to win' but rather finish the race in 1 piece! “Nae bad for
a 57 year old a year or so after suffering a
heart-attack wouldn't you agree”
For his efforts Bert raised a fabulous £2,050 and is planning to run again
next year! Perhaps others from both the Garioch classes may be spurred to
join him!!! Well done indeed Bert and Jane and a big thank you from the
GCRA membership for your effort and commitment to GCRA. Our grateful
thanks also go to Steve Owen of 'Snappy- Snaps' in Aberdeen for his generous
sponsorship in printing the T-shirts worn by Bert and Jane.
