Developed Angina and had consequential quadruple Heart Bypass operation in 1997 at A.R.I in Aberdeen. Completed a Phase 3 programme soon after words then joined a Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise class in the community in June 1997. Currently attends an exercise group at least twice a week and on another 2 or 3 days of the week he walks around 2 miles or so. Sometimes can also be spotted in his shorts buzzing around Inverurie on his wee bike. |

Educated at the John Neilson Institution, Paisley and Ayr Academy.
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Royal Technical College, Glasgow
and Glasgow University 1945-1949
After spending 2 years as a Development Engineer in aircraft gas turbines, decided on an Academic career and moved to Robert Gordon Institute of Technology as Lecturer in mechanical Engineering in 1951.
Appointed Deputy Head of School of Mechanical and Offshore Engineering at R.G.I.T. in 1975. Retired from college life in 1985.
Operated as an Engineering Consultant to the Offshore Oil Industry from 1986-2004
Is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Energy Institute.
Kirk Elder for 50 years.
When not burning the midnight oil on his PC on behalf of GCRA, Bert partakes in pastimes which include Probus Club (currently Vice-President), occasional golf and angling, computing, photography and visiting his grandsons in Texas and Calgary.
Going back to the escapades on his wee bike, could it be that he has taken on a paper delivery round for the Inverurie Herald on the quiet !
