GCRA OBITUARY
Ann Walker – Vice Chairperson
RGN, RSCN, SCM
It is with great regret and sadness that I report the sudden and untimely death of our colleague and fellow member Ann Walker on Saturday 20th October 2007.
Ann was elected to the Board of Management of GCRA shortly after the Inaugural
Meeting in June 2002 and appointed Vice Chairperson in 2005. The enthusiasm and commitment that she applied to GCRA matters epitomised her personality and will continue to serve as an example to us all in the years ahead.
Being resident in the area and interested in community matters Ann was instrumental in establishing our classes in Peterhead, Old Deer, Fraserburgh and Ellon and continued to the end to act in their best interests, ensuring that when required, their voice and viewpoints were tabled at Board meetings.
More recently Ann played a leading role in the development of Clinical Governance Audit procedures for our classes with our NHS partners.
Fundraising was another of her many activities and indeed her last public role with us was at the Benstroll Walk & BBQ’ where she spent the whole afternoon working at the registration desk, attending to the needs of members and their guests.
Educated at St Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen, Ann completed General Nursing training at A.R.I. before setting out on a long and distinguished career in
the Health Service where she held a number of senior posts before retiring in 1993.
The knowledge and experience gained in her career was put to good use in the development of GCRA for the benefit of the members.
Ann will be sadly missed by all for her commitment, common sense and no nonsense approach to her work on behalf of GCRA.
On a personal note Ann was a good and valued colleague who’s sensible and quiet, though determined, approach in some of the difficult situations we have faced in recent years, paid dividends that have contributed to the success of GCRA.
